Asier Villalibre – Asier Villalibre can now see light at the end of the tunnel as he steps up his rehabilitation after his recent hamstring injuries. The original injury to the biceps femoris muscle of the left hamstring group was sustained in the match with Rayo Vallecano in September, and with a recurrence of the injury against Villarreal in October. Unfortunately Asier was substituted against Levante in November with a second recurrence of the same injury. He is now working his way back to fitness.

Geoffrey Kondogbia – Hamstring muscle injury of the left thigh sustained against Athletic Club in Saudi Arabia on January 13th.

Antoine Griezmann - Recurrence of a muscular injury of the right thigh in the Copa del Rey match against Rayo Majadahonda on the 6th January, 2022. The original injury was sustained v Real Madrid on the 12th December, 2021.

Samuel Umtiti - Successful surgery on Tuesday 18th January on a fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone of his right foot in training the day before. He will likely be out for around three months.
Eric García - Hamstring muscle injury sustained v Granada in early January.
Sergio Roberto – Thigh muscle injury diagnosed lafter the game with Espanyol (in which he did not play) in December 2021.
Moussa Wagué – Still under rehab following surgery on a ruptured posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) and associated patella tendon lesion of the right knee, sustained while on loan at PAOK Athens in December, 2020. Now in the final stages of rehab and realistically looking at a return to training in early 2022. The injury occurred when he collided with the goalpost in attempting to make a clearance and this is the typical mechanism for this type of injury. The tibia is forced backwards by the impact and the PCL (as opposed to the ACL) is torn.
Martin Braithwaite and Frenkie De Jong – Both were back in the squad for the Copa del Rey game v Athletic Club.
Marcos Mauro – Muscular injury and missed the Espanyol match on Tuesday 18th January, 2022

Óscar Duarte – Muscle injury to the right thigh sustained in the match on Saturday 8th January 2022 against Real Mallorca.
Shkodran Mustaphi – Successful surgery in December 2021 on a torn lateral collateral ligament of the right knee.
Michele Diana – (Atlético Levante). Underwent successful surgery on the 23rd November 2021 to repair a tear of the tendon of the biceps femoris muscle of the right hamstring group.
Jesús Areso – Surgery on a fracture of the distal fibula bone in the right lower limb.
Aridane Hernández – Returned to training on October 18th but has since suffered a relapse of the soleus muscle injury sustained against Real Mallorca in September. Currently under treatment from the medical team.
Rayo Vallecano de Madrid
Álvaro García sustained a hamstring muscle injury in Rayo Vallecano’s game with Alavés. Initial estimates are that he is likely to be out for around three weeks.
Martín Merquelanz – Currently in rehab following arthroscopic surgery of the left knee for an injury sustained v Levante on the 11th September. Surgery revealed an internal derangement of the knee involving meniscal and ligamentous damage. Rehab is ongoing and overall progression is said to be positive.
Real Betis Balompié
Martin Montoya - Successful surgery on a Haglund’s lesion – a chronic irritation of the Achilles Tendon that develops into a hard bony lump where the tendon inserts on the calcaneus, in this case on the right heel bone.
Marco Asensio - Thigh muscle injury sustained in training in Saudi Arabia and missed the game with Athletic Club in the Spanish Supercup Final as a result. An MRI on Tuesday established the full extent of the injury.
Dominik Grief – Currently unavailable due to a muscular injury.
Joan Sastre - Adductor muscle injury sustained against Cádiz and continuing with rehab.
Amath Ndiayé - Infection of the toe which had to be drained at the end of November

Mattew Hoppe - Deep muscle tear in the right thigh sustained in mid-November and unlikely to return before January 2022.
Antonio José Raíllo - Currently recovering from an ankle injury and still under the medical team. He was operated on in Barca on October 27th 2021 and is currently working his way back to fitness.
Alexander Isak - Ligamentous injury to the right ankle sustained in the match with Celta de Vigo on Saturday, 8th January 2022.
Ander Barrenetxea - Stretchered off against Alavés on Sunday 2nd January with a severe injury to the tendinous aspect of one of the left hamstring muscles. The injury is currently being evaluated by the medical team.
Alex Sola - Meniscus tear in the right knee and continuing rehab under the medical team following surgery on the 20th August, 2021.
Carlos Fernández – Continuing rehab following ACL surgery on August 10th to his right knee, performed by Dr Mikel Sánchez. The injury was sustained in Real Sociedad’s pre-season friendly against AZ Alkmaar.
Nacho Monreal: Continuing rehab following regenerative treatment to the chondral surface of his right knee. This follows on from the injury sustained in March 2021.
Jesús Navas – Rectus femoris muscle injury of the right thigh sustained against Lille on the 3rd November, 2021.
Érik Lamela – Rehabilitation following surgery to the rotator cuff of the right shoulder and likely to be out of action for the next three months.
Carlos Soler – Adductor muscle injury to the left hip and thigh sustained in the Copa del Rey match against Cartagena in midweek.
Dimitri Foulquier – Adductor muscle injury to the left hip and thigh sustained in the Copa del Rey match against Arenteiro two weeks ago.
Toni Lato - Hamstring muscle injury of the left thigh sustained against Elche.
Gabriel Paulista - Hamstring muscle injury sustained in the match against Villarreal on October 30th.
Thierry Correia – Currently unavailable due to pubalgia, which flared up in October 2021 and has not as yet responded to treatment to date. Reported to have stepped up his treatment under the guidance of the Valencia medical team but will not be rushed back to play before he is fully ready to do so. Pubalgia is common in football and is a painful condition affecting the origins of the adductor muscles on the pubic bone. The condition often presents as an overuse injury without the symptoms being attributed to a single, specific incident or injury. Initial symptoms are usually minor in nature but gradually worsen until it reaches the point where training and playing becomes impossible due to the pain.
Juan Foyth – Biceps femoris muscle injury of the hamstrings, sustained against Elche on 16th January, 2022

Francis Coquelin - Successful surgery on his left Achilles Tendon by Dr Bertrand Cottet-Sonnery in Lyon, in conjunction with the Villarreal medical team.
Paco Alcácer - Grade 2 myofascial injury to the soleus muscle of the right calf.
Rubén Peña – Now in rehab following surgery on an acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) sprain of his left shoulder sustained a fortnight ago in the Copa del Rey match with Atlético Sanluqueño. He is likely to be unavailable for several weeks as a result.
