Ansu Fati – Injury to the tendinous aspect of the hamstring muscle of the left thigh, sustained against Athletic Club in the Copa del Rey match on January 20th, 2021. A tendon joins the muscle to the bone and tendinous injuries always take longer to heal because they have a poorer blood supply than muscle tissue. Ansu is now reported to be in the final stages of his recovery.

Iza Carcelén –Currently unavailable due to pubalgia. This could potentially be as a result of overload following injuries to the hamstrings and knee earlier in the season. These could have had an accumulative effect in overloading the pubis by altering Iza’s running gait and thereby increasing the forces on the muscles originating on the pubic bone. Pubalgia is common in football and is a painful condition that often presents as an overuse injury without the symptoms being attributed to a single, specific incident or injury. Initial symptoms are usually minor in nature but gradually worsen until it reaches the point where training and playing becomes impossible due to the pain.

Eden Hazard – Recently underwent surgery to remove an internal fixation plate from his right fibula which was inserted during a previous ankle operation. .
Iñigo Ruíz de Galaretta – ACL rupture sustained against Betis in the tackle with Victor Ruiz on the 20th February 2021. Surgery followed as the injury was to the graft from a previous ACL operation from which Iñigo had made a full recovery. Unfortunately, we are seeing this more and more nowadays as players who have previously undergone ACL surgery and successful rehab afterwards, then suffer a repeat injury to the operated part. Eva Navarro of Levante Fem springs to mind having returned after a year out after ACL surgery only to rupture the graft a few weeks later. It’s usually the graft (also referred to as the ‘’plasty’’) that tends to split, and it would be interesting to know how many recurrences of ACL rupture are actually attributed to tears of the graft. It’s essentially the same injury of course, as the ACL is still ruptured and players have to go through the whole surgical repair and rehab process all over again.
